The Fridge

Now those of you with fridges sitting in your backyards or alleyways, don't get all excited quite yet. You CAN NOT convert any old fridge into a smoker. As you well know, rubber and plastic don't react well when exposed to heat. They smell bad and they definitely taste bad as well.

Unfortunately, all modern fridges are made with interiors of plastic and rubber. It's cheaper and the fridges are lighter. Thus, you need an OLD fridge (1950's era) that has a metal interior in order to do a conversion.

A family friend happened to be able to get her hands on a couple of old 1950's Westinghouse fridges and very kindly donated one to me. Admittedly, it wasn't much to look at when I first got it but it had what I needed - namely a metal interior. The metal interior even had a heat resistant ceramic coating to boot! I was stoked.

Here is what the ole girl looked like.
